Acrylic Fibre Bilum by Cathy Sagive

$270.00

or 4 payments of $67.50 with Afterpay

This Acrylic fibre bilum was made by Cathy Sagive who weaves with the Bilum Hauslain cooperative, in Okapa in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. This is a Skin Pik (pig skin) design in pinks, blue and aubergine.

The Skin Pik design is a story about the most marginalised women in PNG, who are only given the squares of pig skin at ceremonies- most of whom are single mothers, divorced or have menial employment. This pattern is a symbol among the weavers that these women’s lives have meaning.

ALL OF OUR BILUMS COME WITH A CARD DETAILING THE MAKER AND PROVENANCE.
