This is a natural fibre bilum created by artisan Pat Winjet. It has been made using the bark of a gumba tree, and the dyes are natural. The dyes come from leaves from the tik tree for the dark brown, black is from mud mixed with salt and the red is from wild cherry fruit mixed with salt.

Pat is a member of the bilum makers cooperative Singu Arts, based in Wewak in the Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea.

Singu Arts is one of PNG’s leading cooperatives, who’s gumba fibre bilums are made using traditional methods passed down through the generations. It works tirelessly to assist members of the cooperative, all of whom are women, to achieve autonomy, dignity and financial independence through the sale of their bilums.

ALL OF OUR BILUMS COME WITH A CARD DETAILING THE MAKER AND PROVENANCE.
