This natural fibre bilum has been made by Sandy Sio from the Okapa Bilum Weavers group from the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea and has beautiful colour variation from the natural dyes they use.
The Okapa weavers travel to Goroka to trade in coffee and bilums however, do so infrequently due to the condition of the roads. The fibres in this bilum are collected and twisted into string and the dyes used are extracted from plants and berries.
Natural Fibre bilums are made from small trees and the weavers use natural plant based dyes and as such are not designed to get wet. Please keep them dry.
