Made using a double stitch, this traditional Minji bilum takes twice as long as a standard bilum to produce. The traditional stitch is a centiped stitch (minji) and the string has been made from Mum Tree fibre and dyed using traditional plants. This was made by a woman called Florence in the Middle Sepik region and was purchased at the annual bilum festival from Singu Arts who could not recall Florence’s last name. This bilum has a long handle and can be worn comfortably across the body.
