This natural fibre bilum was made by artisan Minika Kipsi using natural dyes and depicts the 2 Needle design. Minika lives in Okapa which is a small village in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Every couple of months the women from Okapa Bilum Weavers walk into Goroka, a trip that takes about 2 days to sell their bilums and coffee in order to buy items that are unavailable to them such as sugar and oil.
Buying a bilum assists women who we work with to achieve autonomy, dignity and financial independence through the sale of their bilums.
Natural Fibre bilums are made from small trees and the weavers use natural plant based dyes and as such are not designed to get wet. Please keep them dry.
